I have been looking for a Malay sundang with a unique bird pommel for a long time...since VVV introduced them to me many years ago. They have, until recently, been most elusive, but with Maurice's help I was finally able to acquire one. Here it is after some clean-up and minor restoration.

The hilt is nicely dressed and the pommel well carved from horn. The blade is typically well executed and chiseled and features a rather unique 1.25in. rib reinforcing the end of the blade and point. It is really a most welcomed and prized piece! Input welcome. Dimensions: Overall length: 24.25in. Blade length: 19.75in. Average blade width: 1.25in. |

The little spine that runs from the end of the fuller to the tip of the blade is a nice touch.

Is it the original scabbard and restored? Regards, Detlef ![]() Thanks guys! Detlef, that one in the thread mentioned is the same, but I did not own it then, and actually I forgot it had already been posted then. The scabbard had the horn chape rebuilt, and added the metal band. I am sure some would disagree, but I preferred the hilt polished to better appreciate its original appearance and materials used. |

the restore job of the scabbard is very nicely done. I like the beautiful grain at the cross piece from the scabbard. And I like the polished up metal fittings from the hilt, it's look much better now. I know that others will disagree but think about this like you. Is the white metal silver? Regards, Detlef |
