Hi Lew,
I think the 'nails' (on yours) are hobnails ....they certainly look like them. Probably traded from the European settlers. The domed nails on Graeme's example were/are usually used in furniture making, as a decorative feature to secure the leather/material to wooden frames like, for instance the 'seat pad' on a chair. Nice, looks like you could deliver a jolly good rap to somebodies head with that. Two recent sticks the West African one I got just before Christmas and the South African one just after. The southern stick has a bit of steel tube on the end. Not weapon but interesting especially the carved one.
