Hi Berkley
I don't hope you believe the one Ariel is asking about it an Adya katti. Have a look here. http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...ght=Adya+katti |

![]() These are Ayda Kattis: ![]() These are Moplahs: ![]() The one inquired about by Ariel appears to me to be single edged, like the Ayda katti I linked to on Artzi's site, not double edged like the Moplah in the thread you linked to. What do you think it is? |

Perhaps this chopper is a rehilt? The adya katti has a fancier handle, doesn't it?

This handle is a fairly generic round piece of wood with a brass bolster and buttcap that doesn't resemble either an Ayda katti or a Moplah, so blade shape and configuration is all there is to go on.

TOO SMALL FOR A KATTIA, MY BEST GUESS ITS FROM INDO CHINA POSSIBLY THE TYPE OF KNIFE USED IN GATHERING OPIUM FROM POPPIES, THEY CUT THE PODS AND THEN COME BACK AND SCRAPE OFF THE SAP, THE WIDE BLADE CAN HOLD A LOT OF SAP BEFORE IT HAS TO BE CLEANED OFF AND PUT IN THE CONTAINER. MY MEMORY IS NOT CLEAR AS TO WHAT OPIUM KNIVES LOOK LIKE BUT IT SEEMS THERE IS SOME SIMULARITY. SO GOOGLE OPIUM AND SEE WHAT TYPE OF KNIVES TURN UP. GOOD LUCK
