"Southern Philippines / Mindanao" seems right to me also.

What do you think about the origin? Tourist or something else?

I realize it is not a usual form. The pictures also indicate it is slightly rounded on the middle front and flat on the back.

The seller says it is carved from one piece of wood excepting the two small strips on the back.
