Cleaning of khanda.

The wrapping on the handle....is it leather (suede side up) ? How is it fixed to the handle ? Sorry for the questions ...but I would like to restore my Khanda...the wrapping is missing

Hi all
the handle is covered with velvet.
The scabbard also.
I think that it is stuck.
I will clean it a little more.
Later I am going to give it an etch .

Dicely done, but what did you use for cleaning?

hi all
I polished with very fine bodywork paper.
I cleaned with acetone.
And attacked with ferric chloride.
Neutralized with crockery product.
Oiled.

Like stopped holes.
Who cross the blade.
at the end there is silver

I have seen blades with markings like that along the blade, but they were filled with brass. Funny that the last one should be silver , and the other ones not.

I have only one Indian sword with holes like that, and on mine they are filled with brass like i wrote. The number of holes is three – and the sword is a khanda. Unfortunately I don’t know what this means, and so far I have not met anyone who knows. I have seen blades with only one hole filled with iron, this is said to be from testing the blade, but why test the blade and not the ingot? Unless of course the blade was already made for export, so the only test which could be made, was testing the blade – maybe this is true, I don’t know.

Hi Galvano, perhaps the cushion is made in the same manner as this one from a Sumatran peudueng .

Good idea Rick, I found one as well

. The protection along the hand guard is held in place by two textile buttons, but the rest is not fastened at all.
