An Murut Jimpul

Any chance that this blade really was cut-off (possily by a Murut?) - or does the engraving end that arbitrarily at some regular Jimpul tips?

Hi no way the blade cut off there is some engraving on the tip and the handle is rare scabbard no Iban style

the style at the blade tip I only found at the pakayun or parang sankit

But never see an pic off Murut style mandau

Does any one have same style like this ???

ps to John from Sabah The pic s off the weapons off the MURUT cd will be send tomorrow to you . (as you can see the last sangkit I did recieve now)

Hi see below are 3 jimpuls other ones are Murut crowit little different and blade style not only the tip is not any jumpull style It very difficult for me because no real evidence murut pic carrying stuff like this one handle rare
mixed style not that I can say this is not Iban .

VERY INTERESTING AND UNUSUAL. THE BRASS FERULE ON THE TWO ALSO LOOKS MORE LIKE MURUT THAN DAYAK. IS THE TOP EXAMPLE OLDER THAN THE BOTTOM ONE? THE WAY THE TANG COMES OUT STRAIGHT FROM THE HANDLE AND THEN DROPS DOWN TO A SHARP POINT WHERE THE EDGE BEGINS REMINDS ME OF SOME OF THE BATACK SHORT SWORDS PISO PODANG IF I REMBER CORRECTLY. WITH YOUR COLLECTION YOU NEED TO GO VISIT THE MURUT AND GIVE A CLASS ON THE WEAPONS THEY HAD IN THE PAST AS I DOUBT VERY FEW HAVE SEEN THEM. CONGRADULATIONS ON THE FINE SWORDS.

Hi Vandoo the below is the oldest one but both are 19th cent .
And John if he get the cd he might show it to the museum
The bras collar is typical I have also an murut spear with an collar like an pakayun bigger collar .
Yes the bataks have same style but if you pit them together you see little different style

Thank you so much Ben. Very much appreciated and I owe you lunch. As always those Borneon stuffs you've posted have been very interesting as well as mind boggling especially that many of the stuffs probably emanated around my "backyard".

I go along with Vandoo in that you'll need to come to visit the Murut (and the rest of the indigenous) people and give them a glimpse to some of the weapons they had in the past. Do let me know should such a venture materialises.
