I had a close look at the tip of the panel but I don't see any trace of other material. And it doesn't look the same at the reverse side?
But in case I misunderstood you I have attached two pictures of each side.

No, any metal added would have been long gone.

Yes, there is also the same patch with missing twist core but it's too irregular to be a special feature, I guess. Seems that I was on the wrong track.

Still, I do wonder how this happened - a forging flaw at such a prominent place seems weird but what is it supposed to be?
