The restorations are nicely done and it is a real beauty So I guess now that you are hooked on Moro blades you will have no use for your African collection so just throw it all in a big box and I will let you know where to ship it Congrats on a lovely kris. Yep the blade is nice too, with separate ganga and nice lamination. Ah, Lew, for the moment i will keep my african toys, but if you want to send m some of your moro, well i will love them as all my other kids

That's a very nice Maranao kris but I'm not fond of the repair to the pommel. It looks odd for the period (c. 1900) and I don't think it is consistent with a Mindanao piece (while the scabbard is). The original kakatua pommel would almost certainly have been much plainer with a short, sqare-ended, minimal crest. The carving on the kakatua is well done but not in keeping with the overall presentation of the sword IMO. Ian. |
