Ya know Bill , I think I'm going to start calling you 'Hoover' 'cause you really are vacuuming up a lot of stuff my friend .
That is a fascinating wood that the scabbard is made from; the grain reminds me of a Briar pipe ; scabbard by Kaywoodie !? Seriously though; does anyone have an idea as to what kind of timber this might be; it is quite stunning . |

Rick, several burrs can have that figure & colour, but it most looks like Amboyna to me. { one of the pterocarpis family} Spiral |

Bill,
Excellenct kris. When I go to yard sales all I ever see is old baby stuff and lawnmowers. Looks like the twised cores are coming out of the woodwork. It my be time to rethink our earlier hypothesis. This one looks like the equal of the one in the Definitive Warfare thread, and from the sounds of it, a much better price! Congrats.Mike |
