Default Java or Bali pedang?

I just won the pedang in the pictures, it's described as pedang from Java, after 1900, 68 cm long inside scabbard, blade 53 cm. Handle should be from wood but I guess that it's horn.

I doubt that it's Javanese and think that it's Balinese but like always I can be completely wrong. What do you think?

Congrats! I don't have an answer for you, but I like this colorful pedang and was watching that lot for a while.

I agree with Balinese, though the blade throws me a little.

Well, it doesn't look Javanese to my eye, but i'm not sure i'm seeing this as Balinese either. For one thing i'm not sure i have ever seen a bird represented on a Balinese hilt. Are there any other possible origins for this. Maybe Lombok?

Thank you David! Lombok could be another possibility. I am very unsure.

Detlef

Hello Detlef,
I believe it is from Lombok. I have a Lombok Pedang with similar scabbard discussed earlier here:

Hello Tatyana,

Thank you very much! I forgot about your nice Lombok pedang, yes, the carvings and paintings look very similar. So it seems that David was correct in his assumption.

Regards,
Detlef
