This combination chopping/stabbing weapon recently sold at auction. The axe head looks somewhat like a Hausa "ring axe." Anyone seen a similar example or can identify its origin.

A Hausa ring axe for comparison. The circular head with external edge sharpened and the internal edge serrated is typical for these axes. Not a very good match to the OP, but the closest I can think of in terms of construction of the axe head.

Hi Ian, unfortunately I can't offer an ID as this interesting specimen is drawing a blank from me, but I do wonder about a potential Hausa connection. It is my understanding that the blade of Hausa ring axes are usually tanged but maybe this is a more decorative modern example?

			Hi ADS,

Yes, I'm drawing a blank too. Given the talent and breadth of experience here, someone will likely come along with an answer. Sometimes it can take a few years. |

Not Hausa. Not Africa. It looks like a simplified version of an Indian axe.

			Hi AndreasM,

Could be. There is some similarity there. |
