I am curious about what is covering the copper in the first place that upon cleaning revealed the copper underneath.

Could it be some kind of glue or repair compound instead of copper? When it's indeed copper it could be a hard soldering repair. From the pics you posted it looks like the first! ![]() And I agree with Stu, the other side looks repaired also. Regards, Detlef |
