It almost looks like a representation of a flag.

Hi PUFF:

Interesting question. The large mark is unfamiliar to me.

I'm thinking there may be a second, partially struck, mark to the left of the large obvious one. I can almost make out the upper half of a human form facing to the left of the picture with arms outstretched. Is there something there or am I hallucinating again?

Just a suggestion..... could it be the Lion symbol of Sri Lanka
