HELP WITH PHILIPPINE SWORD HOLDERS

I think I know what you are referring to as far as the Indo holders go . These are made to be worn on a belt at your back with the board portion facing downward to keep the bare blade away from the legs ; they are not really meant as display pieces for the house ; more for field work although they are nicely carved .

I don't know if these were used in Philippine field agriculture ; but it seems quite possible .

Please correct me if I am wrong (and I usually am), isn't a tagub used with a Barong? The hole in this piece does not look like a Barong would fit.

If this is a Moro piece, when and where was it used? You do not see these around.

Ron , to the best of your knowledge then , there were no specialised stands or holders for the edged weapons in the Philippine or Moro household ?

These are probably still used today by Indonesian subsistence farmers .

As for emeritus it's a typo ; should read 'emeticus" !

the term tagub actually mean scabbard, which could be on any type of sword. we're just used to the term applied on moro weapon, but the term is also used in the visayas region and some parts of luzon.

not quite sure about moro household, but in the visayas, as far as i'm concern, farmers just hang their sidearm where ever it's available...

THERE IS AN OLD POST ON THESE SOMEWHERE IN THE ARCHIVES THERE WERE PICTURES AND INFORMATION ON THEM. I DON'T KNOW IF THE PICTURES WILL STILL BE THERE BUT THE INFORMATION SHOULD. I CAN'T REMEMBER MUCH ELSE RIGHT NOW OLD AGE OR JUST BRAIN LOCK

I JUST SEARCHED AND FOUND THE POST IT WAS POSTED 6/19/2002 BY Rsword AND TITELED ( INTERESTING CARVED SWORD OR KRIS WALL HANGER. THE PICTURES ON MY 3 EXAMPLES ARE STILL THERE, THEY WERE FROM CENTRAL JAVA NEAR SURAKARTA, TAKE A LOOK.
I HAVE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF ANYTHING LIKE THESE BEING USED IN THE PHILIPPINES ONLY IN INDONESIA IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY.
