No need for apologies, I actually hoped to start a long discussion thread with my post.

What I see are two distinct styles of dagger, the fixed blade and the folder, and I have no argument with the folder being a late creation of and for the market.

The fixed blade "Stiletto" is evidently a form of Mediterranean dirk with a long ancestry, and the etching being a promotional aid to boost sales. A bit like the mottoes on Sheffield Bowies, that were non the less carried in the US during the Cowboy era.

After wittering on about them, I thought it an idea to post a pic of a couple of "Sam Bell" dirks, dating to the mid 19thC and described as small enough to go on a watch chain.
He worked as a knife maker and retailer in Tennessee and later in Texas.

Wow.....sorry to have missed this thread.

These little Corsican/Genovese stylets, along with some of the similar type from Albacete are exclusively what I collect. I just never check this part of the forums. I will now.

Anyways..... beautiful pieces!! I have about 70 of them and I am always looking for them. I have purchased from individuals in Europe and all major auction houses.

If anyone has any they ever want to sell.....please message me. I travel to Italy, France and Spain in late May every single year and stay into the first week of July.

I have cash/dollars/euros.....and I will be there regardless of Covid or Ukraine.

And by the way, I just read another thread about transporting knives from Europe back to the US --- I have been doing it for the last five years without one single problem. I brought back 4 Albacete daggers from Madrid in July and the TSA put a flyer in my check-in luggage letting me know they had searched it. Not one single problem....not one knife touched or disturbed.

I get a re-inforced cardboard tube, and tape my business card to the outside of the tube....and then I write on the tube with a sharpy --- Very sharp, Be careful!

I always fly Delta.....and like I said -- never one problem
