I would have just applied some pitch to the cord wrap that would have done the trick. You wrapped it ok but you should try using thinner strips of rattan. The wide stuff seems a bit much for a 5" grip.

thanks for the suggestion, lew. the cord does look nice, with pitch even, but most of my krises has cord grips and zero rattan grips. yeah it kinda look plain. i do have a thinner rattan strip which i used to work on my pira scabbard (to be stained later). like i said i'm just experimenting on this type of grip...
