I have had this sword for a long time, but never had the diligence to follow up on this cypher on the blade. I had thought this to be French from one of these 'exotic' units resembling the Pandour character, but these units existed throughout Austria and Bavaria as well into the Napoleonic period. Perhaps this might explain the distinct 'hirschfanger' appearance of the hilt, coupled with the 'eared' effect of the yataghan hilts (in line with the blade of course). |
