Hi Stu:

Not Philippines IMHO.

It is a humble, village quality parang that could be from Java, but Sumatra or Kalimantan might be possibilities also. It's a general purpose knife, mainly for gardening/agricultural purposes. Perhaps someone here can help you identify it more closely with regard to the style of the scabbard or hilt, but they look fairly non-specific to me.

I've taken the liberty of lightening one of your pics to better show the hilt and scabbard details.
