How about the Royal Armmoury in Leeds? It is only one or two days away on a bike:-). Joke away, it may be worth a visit, alothoug I have never been there.

Also check the Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Museum. Both are great.

Imperial War Museum is good although perhaps more contemporary.

The Wallace collection is fantastic
Lot of Indian weaponry but also medieval armor as well
Greys antique center is v close by and has lots of dealers of all sorts, Centre is not open much on sundays though.
My favorite of contemporary Militaria is HMS Belfast.
Enjoy the trip.

Sometimes the obvious gets overlooked. If you haven't been there, don't forget about the Tower of London, for sometime during your visit. Revenge yourself for Tussauds.

The national army museum Chelsea
have a good collection of Indian swords and grand grand uniforms of the 19th century.
