The handle is made of 2 slabs of walrus ivory. Looks like the original koftgari inscriptions were in silver. The strap in the middle seems to be of silver filigree. NIce piece. I too vote mid-19c.

This looks authentic to me, if a bit zealously cleaned.

You have all been very helpfull in taking out the cognitive dissonance that was between my not so distinguished and rather small ears last night :>)
@ not2sharp : that is a very very nice yataghan, the ears are indeed quite distinguished too. @ Ariel : if you - as a yathaghan expert, correct me if I am wrong - think it is OK then who am I to think it is not.. Thanks all ! |
