I think you hit the nail on the head Steve, thank you. This is a "dress" knife from Norway. Worn as part of traditional dress, (bunad). Did some research after reading your post and found a photo of a similar piece on a Norwegian site. Very interesting. Thanks to all. Much appreciated.
