Hello,
I don't understand why nobody has reacted to this post yet, because I think this is an interesting and beautiful dagger. It is really not my area but I think that this one is not too difficult. The ornaments clearly say SAHARA. So this is not a tourist piece and not Ottoman either, but a Tuareg or related Berber tribe from north-west Africa. I looked up some similar items in order to convince you. They come in thousand variations, mostly with straight blade, but the wire ornaments on the hilt is strange and beautiful.. Age? Late 19th/early 20th c., but this is only a guess. |

I think it's Moorish, Mauretania Tuareg, see here: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...hlight=moorish

Thanks for the expertise. The level of knowledge in this forum in amazing! I'm glad you identified it for me. I paid $60.00 for it in an antique mall in Gardnerville, Nevada.
I'm going to try to clean it up a little bit and re-photograph it. |

I cleaned it today. I didn't realize it had any brass parts. The knife is approximately 11" long with a 6.5" blade. Is this a child's or woman's knife?
I've learned so much in the short time I've been reading these forums. Thanks again. |
