Hi Detlef,
here is my pedang. IMHO it is Sumatran. What is your opinion ?
Sorry for the bad pics and thanks in advance.

Sorry, Gio, we do need better pics!

Especially close-ups of the hilt would be important (and also a full view of the scabbard). Any special features of the blade?

Since this is a very different beast, I'd suggest to open a new thread for your piece.

Regards,
Kai

Hi GIO,

look to the tripartite handle collar and as well the flow of the scabbard, very similar to the both examples from naga82 so I would think that your example is from Lombok. But like Kai I would like to see better pictures.

Regards,
Detlef

Here is an example within the context of culture.
Maybe there are some clues.

Hi Detlef; no I don't know where this picture was taken.
I thought that possibly the location could be suggested by the arms the men are carrying. We see a Piso Podang there and what looks like a Sumatra pedang; those spears; could they suggest a locale?

Those gentlemen seem to be Batak.

The spears appear to be not very distinct but the guy carrying them seems to have a lopah petawaran in his belt.

Kai

Hello Kai and Rick,

yes, I've noticed the piso podang and the possible lopah petawaran but the right guy seems to wear a badik in his belt!?! And the pedang don't fit really as well. So my question to Rick.

Regards,
Detlef

Hello Gio,

very nice pedang! Still would say it's a Lombok one but others may have a different opinion.

Regards,
Detlef
