Wow, that's an exceptional, old Moro kris or, more specifically, a kalis taluseko from the Sulu archipelago! Cato (1996) would place this as (possibly late) 18th century but others tend to think his estimates may be too conservative. This is really hard to top as a first kris, keris, whatever...
![]() ![]() The blade is in great condition and you can easily make out the nice pattern welding along the blade's centerline (a light etch might bring this out better). It only misses both asang-asang ("stirr-ups" - you can still see their "shadows" across the base of the blade) a fact that I wouldn't expect from captured weapons. These could be replaced as well as a fitting scabbard added - Battara is the resident artisan to contact for restoring such a beauty! Welcome among the kris/keris addicts! ![]() Regards, Kai Last edited by kai; 12th February 2006 at 11:58 PM. |

BTW, this recent thread shows a similar example:
http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1633 You can find tons of more stuff by searching this forum (and the archives) for the keywords "kris" or "Moro"... Enjoy! Regards, Kai |

Ditto!!! And welcome. You can do a light etch with vinegar and make that center pattern stand out nicely. I second the reccomendation on Battara's restoration work if you plan to go that way.
