Steve, my guess would be yes, a rehilt. The wood doesn't seem to have nearly the patina of the rest of the piece and it is certainly way out of proportion on the aesthetic level. The rest looks nice, late 19th-early 20thC.

I agree ,that really doesnt look like a Moro hilt to me.

The piece looks really silly with that dumbell handle attached .
