			After dancing with a star...

As it is a very popular subject, I opened this thread on the sword dance. It is a very old tradition in the Arab world, performed by male and female. Even the short French guy did it! If you have any old photograph or comments... Regards, Kubur |

Well the female painting and the old Syrian photo are not realistic to say the least. I am not sure about Egyptian bellydancers using swords too but maybe.

As for males dancing with swords, yes its an old tradition. There is the gulf Arab Ardha and the Omani razha. There is a Yemeni dance too. I had a topic about it somewhere. |

A decent summary of the dance. Although I think some of the names are not correct. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dinIKjrgW0 |

You should browse for "Georgian sword dance." Or "Ensemble Rustavi"

Absolutely spectacular! I saw a Georgian sword dance performed live and it was breathtaking. Exceptional speed and coordination. The kind you would only expect to see in a Kung-fu movie. |
