			Hello,

I will be visiting Munich and Nuremberg in mid-January 2016 and hoped that members of this forum might have some suggestions as to museums in the area which might have collections of 16th or 17th century firearms and accouterments, as well as bladed weapons and armor of the same period. I have a visit to the Germanisches Nationalmuseum planned but wondered where else I might visit during my week in the area which might have good collections on display. If this is not an appropriate question for this forum I apologize and would ask the moderators to remove my post. Thank you, Lisa P. |

			Hi Lisa,

Do visit die Veste in Coburg, it has on of the most beautiful collections of art, architecture , glass, paintings, arms and armor and all in its original environment. The quality of the arms and armor collection is amazing, don't forget the cellar with the tournament sledges for woman, the cellar has a certain atmosphere to it, furthermore I can't express enough how clean the place is and how friendly the staff. http://www.kunstsammlungen-coburg.de...ume-waffen.php Kind regards Ulfberth |

There is also the Bavarian Army museum in Ingolstadt, with loads of arms and armour of all periods - that may be the one Marcus refers to, and they allow photos. It's a bit further away but the castle at Passau has a good A&A collection too. You will have a busy visit.

			Hi,

there is also a museum in Kulmbach at the Plassenburg with the biggest military show (so they say) within the time from 1700 until 1806: http://plassenburg.de/de/die-museen/...ich-der-grosse I was in it and it was worth it. Photos were not allowed when I remember correctly. And the Veste Coburg isn´t far, which is also outstanding. Dirk |

			Hello All!

I would like to thank everyone who made suggestions as to museums with arms collections to visit in Bavaria. During my recent vacation I made it to the collections at Kaiserberg, Veste Coburg, Rothenburg, and took in a 16th/17th century clothing exhibition in Nuremburg. I would not have known about these excellent museums were it not for the members of this list! Thank you all very much! Lisa |

Lisa, welcome to our forum!!!!! While I cannot personally recommend as I have not been to these places, if you use our search functions you will see many threads in which our late friend Matchlock (Michael) posted incredible images from many museums. Please do ask any questions which come up as we all learn together here as these things are discussed. Sounds like you had a wonderful trip and we would love to hear more on your experiences. Very best regards Jim |
