Happy Birthday and congratulations David R. This is as many gentleman have suggested a Burmese dha. You can tell by the blade profile and the wide fuller. Fullers are not found that common among south east asian mainland swords except for with Burmese you do see a more functional versus thin shallow fuller. The type you have would have had a short bare hardwood handle probably about 7-8 inches long with brass ferrule and pommel cap each about an 1 1/2 long.
