The grip is no doubt made of horn.

Germany was an exporter of horn for grips until WWII.

The pommel figure depiction looks like the symbolic "Green Man" associated with hunting weapons and accessories. I have seen this figure on several late 16th to mid 18th century German origin powder horns or hunting flasks. The handle is without a doubt horn from my observation. Great piece!
