Indians went to Sumatra and introduced this hilt (Gulabhati became Hulu Meu Apet) as well as Piso Podang (see Elgood's book)
Nothing Muslim here, pure Hindu tradition.

Like Ariel said there was Hindu and Buddist influence there possibly as early as the 1st century AD. And they can be found with imported Indian blades. I have one with a nice mechanical damascus blade.
