Celebes (Sulawesi) Badik /Badek

Wow !
Very nice classic example of a celebes badik.

The rings are not uncommon, but normally the are on the flat side of the scabbard. and higher.

Not my area as you know but it's a handsome looking piece and a really nice addition to your "extensive armoury".

Hi Gene,

very nice Sulawesi badik! The loops are maybe a later addition from the owner.

Some of my ones have later added belt clips.
Here a group picture from some of mine.

Thats a fine selection you have there Detlef.

What do you think might have been hung from the loops on mine?

Thank Gene! Maybe only a string for hang up the badik at a belt.

Wow Gene, that's a nice piece! I'm especially into the blade: The patterns are gorgeous and that little swirl immediately forward of the hilt has me really charmed. What I like even more is the belly-waist ratio of the blade - it just has a flow to it that I haven't seen on many other badiks.

No, Usually these are worn with the edge down. Just try for yourself and stick it in your belt. Then draw.

A very lovely badek. I would say one of the better pieces. The loops are a later addition placed over the silver work.
