It's a dead ringer for Mimas, one of the moons of Saturn.

Took another look at it yesterday. It seems like the dot in the circle has got a thread. So maybe it has been hanging from a hook/eye or something that has been screwed in the ball.
It is most probably a counterweight of some kind. We didn't use those kind of windmills in Denmark, but it could have been used as a counterweight in another kind of industry maschine.

as we just finished the olympics and are about to start the paralympics, the following comes to mind

2.5 kg throwing hammer/weight minus it's broken off handle? (some of these are hollow / lead shot filled.)

Sarah Holt Throws the 2.5kg hammer
