I may confirm you about the origin of your dagger, it's a "Majdal Shams' Druze jambiya"
your fellow's suggestion, it's too much optimistic ...
I've 2, and never been able to get a translation,
even if my wife is completly fluent in Arabic (mother tongue)
may be Druze language wrote with Arabic alphabet, it's a suggestion
