" Schmoozer's steel wool:- doesn't matter what he uses, he can use a scotchbrite pad if he likes, the objective of the exercise is to remove any possible adhesions from the stainless steel that might be on the blade, I said 00 steel wool because its easier to get than 0000 and a damn sight cheaper, 0000 is essentially for polishing, there's buggerall cut in it. You know, people tend to be too bloody cautious with keris blades---00 steel wool has bigger strands and they're easier to see if any get caught by the metal grain. "

Hello all, I purchased this keris some time ago. Just last week I soaked it in a vinegar bath, so I thought it would be nice to share the result.

While not stellar, it's nice to see somewhat of a stain on the blade again.

Lovely find, Schmoozer!

I have used 00 steel wool to good effect. Most recently I've lubricated the blade with a couple drops of mineral oil before gently going over the corrosion spots with steel wool. You can have a look at the result here http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=24017.

Bjorn - that's beautiful :O
