Hi all,
Can anybody help id'ing these for a friend on another list? Here was what was said about them.
"Attached are two photos of the two daggers. They measure ~ 8.3" for the blade and are ~ 13.5" overall. The top blade is in lesser condition but does seem to show traces of silver on the handle. On the handles photo I was trying to show the forging seam on the lower blade's handle. Surprise, surprise, on the photo a pattern shows up quite clearly, a surprise to me since I had not noticed this when examining the blade in-hand.

Neither blade is "sharp" so that makes me believe they are strickly a thrusting weapon (like a spear). "

Thanks.

seem to be Indian, with the all-steel handles. Is that a hoof-shaped pommel? Any chance of larger photos?

Tom and others. Sorry for the delay in responding. Several things have shown up on these daggers when photographed in direct sunlight and again when viewing on the computer. Almost impossible to see with the eye, straight-on...strange! If my photos attach okay, #3 shows remants of inlaid pattern on the handle. #8 and #9 show the a handle's underside inlaid pattern along with the metals forging seam. Today, I discovered the pattern on the blade of one dagger, thanks to direct sunlight. Seeing all this, I feel quite good about Tom's opinion of work from India. The "hoof" pommel is wood and loose on one dagger. Socket handle appears filled (wood?) and a metal tang attaches the pommel, from what I can tell.
