Heavy steel mace
So, always poking around,
I have just picked up this pretty heavy mace, large model, 71 cm long. Besides its size, it's heavier than conventional weapon masses 2 kg 400 grams but proportionally to its size it's not bad. It's probably a replica but it's not a cast iron model but a well forged one and the inside of the tube sounds hollow, it sounds good, good steel. It seems rudimentary but well made. After researches, I found old european maces, certainly small, less than 60 cm long but similar to this one.. I don't see any red/copper solder near the fins as is often suggested and I know that on a battlefield weight rhymes with slowness and fatigue and therefore lethality but .... Could this be a large version of a medieval period model (to be handled on the ground with one/two hands) or something more/very recent.... |
