Question Whatzit?

This found me at an antique store last week. The serpentine wooden handle is made as two parts, joined by an aluminum sleeve. The small blade appears irregularly serrated. I presume this is a tool that makes sense if you know what its purpose is; I presume also that it is from Southeast Asia. Can anyone enlighten me?

Hello Lee,

it's a rice knife, somewhere in Mainland Southeast Asia, can't tell you the exact origin but most probably Cambodia.

Detlef

Very nice;I also believe it is Cambodian or Vietnamese and it is for cutting rice.

Gentlemen, I believe that you absolutely "nailed" it and I thank you. I had tried so many descriptive searches without success, but one you gave me the answer, finding more was easy.
