A fellow collector bought this pedang and asked me if I could help translating it.
The state of the scabbard is bad, and the hilt is in relic state. But the blade is susprisignly well...

Of course it is part of the history of the weapon.
The fact that we do'nt know why it was painted does not change...

The material reminds me of a mirror frame we had from Morocco inlaid with.. camel bone.
No indications of ivory at all imho.
No schreger lines and the yellow colour would indicate a long storage...

I don't think you should see this as a Kayan weapon.
The floral motifs suggest a muslim background as they were/are not allowed to depict animals / humans / spirits etc.
But it is a mandau :)
