Default a pedang by another name?

This is on order from Oriental Arms. Artzi just refers to it as a Indonesian pedang. Information would be appreciated in narrowing down the where, when, and what. Once I get it in I'll be hoping for help on translating the inscriptions.

Default well now

That seemed like it was indeed a similar parang but the discussion was not very productive. No one actually offered any translations that I saw.

Marcus,

Have you invested in any books on the subjects that you have interest in?

Hello Marcus,

very nice pedang, think that it is from Lombok. But I think that the inscription is very recent. Sorry, can't help with the translation.
I would recommend to you the book from Albert G. Van Zonneveld, "Traditional Weapons Of The Indonesian Archipelago", ISBN 90-5450-004-2. It is a pedang and not a parang.

Best regards,
Detlef

regarding the script... if it's in arabic script, it's a very bad scrawl... imagine a doctor's prescription writing. It's not legible at all and the writing is as though attempted by one who didn't know arabic script.

Which would confirm that it is very recent, added to the blade for selling purpose.

Default pedang and not a parang

Of course, my (silly) mistake. I have the Zonneveld book. It is an excellent reference. This piece comes closest to Zonneveld's type II, but he only shows a single example. Could it be considered a Pedang lurus?

Lurus mean straight. First, your pedang isn't straight and second is this: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...t=pedang+lurus what I understand as pedang lurus.

Detlef

Default pedang parang

I introduced it as a parang because that was how Artzi identified it.

Here you can see three other examples of this type from pedang but there are a lot more in old threads: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...ghlight=pedang

Here you can see many very nice ones more: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...ghlight=pedang
