Default I haven't seen any Santa stories yet?

Well it was already asked about in another thread, was it too early for Christmas stories....Well Christmas has passed now and presents must surely be opened or maybe Santa didn't come this year because you were bad?

So who got what for Christmas?

I bought myself a few goodies, this display being one of them, some books and a Korean Jian.
The Barong appears to have a clear herring bone twistcore pattern...a shame the hilt and pommel has losses though....what would you do with it :-)

Is that a 19th century date I see on the case label?

I've got a few things in the mail, one is tied up in customs the other two have twice been refused on an airmail flight and are back to sit with relatives in California until I figure out how to get them to Europe. Maybe I was bad this year? Been a while since shipping was so frustrating.

Oh yeah, the fine print, just scraped it in at 1898.

Too bad about the barong but would love to see close ups of the blade.

Battara,

It is very hard to photograph correctly when behind glass.

The blade is a triple row twist core...shame about the hilt though...I am loathe to break open this time capsule to clean these pieces and the condition suits the overall presence of the display...maybe there will be time over the Christmas holidays to give them some attention.

The Kampilan is a very elegant thing too, gentle sweeping curve and demure size would make for a very capable pirate sword.

Yeah, he didn't need to check the naughty list twice to find us!

We had to treat ourselves!

Nice display Gav. Will you etch the blade to bring out the pattern?

A nice find Iain, glad to see you secured it. Is it now with you? I look forward to seeing it in detail.

I am not sure what I will do Gene, take of the surface rust for sure.
What did you treat yourself to seeing as though you were on the naughty list?

Gavin
