Default Swords Guns Bows etc Manville RI sept 22-23 2012

I had thought I had posted this here but I guess not. I have attended and participated in a display of swords at the Manville Sportsmen's Rod and Gun Club.

Family friendly and varied displays. One regular addition will be a display of old hit or miss engines and machinery from the old mill days of Rhode Island. Situated between Forrestdale and Providence, there is also Mowbray Publishing just down the road along with Mowbray's old home. I have added quite a few period swords from the mid 18th century up into the 20th century. This had begun down there more with medieval reproductions from many makers over the years ranging from Oscar Kolombatovich to Arms&Armor beyond to Albion.

The display varies from year to year as more or fewer participate. we have had a few internet friends stop by with old stuff.

Anyway, if you are in the New England area within a day trip during the first week in autumn, this may be a great chance to meet any of the gang and talk/handle swords. There are generally targets to cut and a public to spread the joy of collecting and history. We have managed to put it indoors during very wet days but have done a few of those outside as well.

There is a 200 yrd range and guns to shoot (a ticket routine). Re-enactors and varied vendors. I miss the occasional pow wow drums but they have chosen not to deal with the club. The sound of hit or miss engines will now be a regular background. Music as well, food served in the clubhouse (tickets again). Bring a chair if you are going to hang out for the day.

More random pictures of those events and albums found here

It is not a solicitation for sales, or swaps but such might occur in the natural course of things. I posted this as an invitation for any within driving range to attend an open and public event. The club does run some activities on a ticket basis but no one is required to participate or pay for looking at swords and arms.

It is no different than posting a notice for an event at the Higgins Armory, or mentioning one of many arms shows.

That said, if this belongs elsewhere, or is unwelcome, by all means remove the post entirely or put it somewhere else.

Added to the forum's calendar.

Cheers
