Default Ayda Katti just finished on eBay

A very nice ...and I believe.. scarce Ayda Katti just finished on eBay. Looks to be very well made.......thought it may be a 'sleeper' I still think the bidder got a good deal....

Any comments, information gentlemen ? ......thank you

blade is a little under 17" long. The handle is just over 6.5" long being made of horn ,an engraved criss/cross design forming the handle grip. A further piece of carved horn approx 5" long fixed on to the end of the handle with a brass rivet. The overall length is approx. 23".

Nice, but bad pictures - I don’t understand why sellers often show so bad pictures.

True they are not often seen, but as Robert Elgood wrote in one of his books, thousands were dropped at sea.

Hi Jens,
I agree, needs better pictures!!
Could you show some shots of ayda katti so we might discuss these a bit better. You have shown some outstanding examples, and we've had some good discussions on them. i'm trying to recall, what was behind the red coloring on many of these?
Best,
Jim

From what I remember from past discussions, wasn't the red paint applied to serve as protection from salt water?
I was going to bid on this one, but I saw some familiar names in the fray. I probably would not ahve won anyway.

Here are a few pictures, although they are not too good either.
Total length 55 cm, length of blade 40 cm, blade where it is widest 10.5 cm, weight 1030 g.
The stamped mark is the seal of Coorg on the west coast of India.

Jens.....what a lovely example. Is the hilt covered in gold or is it an alloy?
