Default Kris Holder for comment

Can you folks please tell me more about this Kris or Kiris holder and the writing on the back.It has 2 holes at the top that have a leather loop for hanging your kris on the plaque across the artwork and then hangs on the wall . It is made of wood and appears to be an old peice of wood . The art is carved and then painted
Thanks for any info

Hi Alan. This type of display is called blawong and it is from Jawa. The figure that decorates it is a character from the wayang, traditional stories performed with puppets. I am fraid i am not able to translate the writing on the back, but someone else might be able to. Better pictures would be helpful, but even then estimating the age might be difficult. Yours appears to be fairly nicely carved and painted.

Warm salaams to all,
