Default Dagger from Borneo

I found this dagger in the fotos at an auction. As I think it is interesting for some collectors, I show it here. The dagger has a total length of315mm and is made from a bone of a big bird called Casuar.

I've always been impressed by the ingenuity of mankind in creating tools. Handsome dagger.

Here's a link to information on the cassowary:

I would think that P.N.G is more likely than Borneo.

yes, you are right, I wrote Borneo because I didn't know the English name of P.N.G. (Papua New Guinea?)

Hello corrado26, Are you saying that this is currently in the process of being auctioned or that the auction has already ended?

Best,
robert

Carrado26:

This is an Asmat bone dagger from Indonesian West Papua. I cannot be sure from the picture, but it seems to have been made from the leg bone of a Cassowary, a large flightless bird of the region. These were largely talismanic or used for ceremonial purposes rather than as tools.

Please let Robert know if this item is still being offered for sale.

Ian.

The posting of items in the process of being sold is against forum policy. Because it has been found that the item being discussed here is currently being sold at auction this thread will now be closed.
