Recently obtained Keris

Hello y'all,

As a newbie to this forum, I'd like to start off with my recently obtained Keris.
I came past it on a internet site and took it over from the previous owner.

The only thing I can tell with 100% sureness is that the Keris has traveled recently across the great ocean from Indonesia, also, I've concluded that its origin lies in Java.

I've contacted a Antiquities Dealer and he confirmed some information I put together by information from the internet.
I've only started this week on learning more about Kerisses, so my information is doubtable, and therefore, please tell me what you think about it.

Ukiran : Solo, possibly type Yudo Winatan
Mendak : Possibly copper plated with glass beans
Wrangka : Gayaman Solo, possibly Nunggak Semi
Pendok : Possibly Blewehan Krawangan
Dapur : Possibly Brojol
Pamor : Possibly Miring Buntel Mayit or Pangeran Welang

Here are the 3 pictures, apologies for the crappy quality, but it's evening, artificial lighting keeps tricky.

and last, but not least, a picture with the sizes of 1843x1730, just a link.
This pictures has measurements, in metric, but google says, 1 cm = 0.39".

Hello Paul

Welcome to the forum.

A very nice keris for a beginning collector.

It is a solo keris indeed. The description came from the seller, I suppose.
I think this keris is recently made, but well executed.

A better start than most of us keriscollectors did

Thanks for your reply,the dealer helped me out with the Wrangka, since I could only conclude that it must have been a Gayaman Solo, he told me that it would possibly a Grayaman Solo Nunggak Semi.

I agree that it is a nice object, and that's why I bought it

But how is it a better start than most collectors?

I'm very keened on having information about Kerisses.
When I start something, like this collection, I always start reading information before I put money in it, the more you can tell, the happier it makes me

Hello Paul,

The original wrangka could be a gayaman and if it was a solo, it was a replacement. The original wrangka should be a gayaman madura. Gayaman madura and solo have similarities but also differences.

For more information about keris and the answer on your question why you made a better start than most of us I would advice you to take some days or evenings, search on keris in this forum and read, learn and enjoy!
