Here is a Sumatran panjang for viewing. The blade is 21 inches long,
27 inches overall with a horn handle and a silver scabbard with gold bands
and a horn throat. Nice layered damascus blade with gold ornamentation
between blade and handle.

For the experts out there, usually I see this type with a gold and enamel ferrule with a wooden scabbard. This one is silvered. What is the significance to matching a silver scabbard to this type of court sikim?

Thanks guys, and thank you Kronckew for cleaning up the pictures. I only
have one little digital camera and i haven't learned all the little things one
needs to do for really quality pictures. Hopefully that will improve with time.

you are welcome.

i mostly use a freeware program called irfanview. it allows fixing a lot of image woes. like color balance. it also has a function to decrease file size without losing detail or color. nice for processing images before uploading attachments here.

pictures outdoors in sunlight generally come out best.

indoors is more of a problem and more light dependent. the color and type of artificial light as well as intensity can cause anomalies. the intense blue blanket it was on along with cool lighting likely fooled the cameras logic circuits

. i try to wait for a nice sunny day before photographing my new toys.

adobe photoshop helps in the worst cases. i spent a good part of a year as a consultant scanning & tarting up thousands of paper photos of employees for a major financial institution's annual meeting brochure & to computerize their photo files, making sure they were all the same size, color balance and fixing/removing defects and removing the backgrounds and substituting the official corporate mottled blue background. it was fun & i got paid for playing. and i worked from home mostly.

Indeed this type of hilt and ferrule is often seen with a wooden scabbard.
This example obviously has suffered from time.
Gold inlay in the iron have almost all gone.
The crown has lost its enamel, although it could be that it never had enamel.

The scabbard mouth and silver work could well be of a later date.
But done with a lot of craftmanship and taste I must say.
