Default Massive Sudanese Spear Head

I picked this up last week it was a bit over cleaned but it is still an excellent example. I put an average size Sudan spear next to it for comparison.

Interesting. I have that extra inch for a deeper more satisfactory penetration, also a very long halft too long to show and I do not like to boast about it.

Now Tim

Once you get past the first 10-12 inches the rest isn't going to matter much.

Thumbs up

Very nice, guys.

I think this spearhead is Sudanese, too. The blade itself is more slender, with a very pronounced middlerib (hope this is the right word).

But its dimensions ! ! !

Total length of the spearhead : 57 cm (about 22,8 inches)

length of actual spearblade : 39 cm (about 15,6 inches)

In my humble opinion, a slender blade will have more penetration power than a broad blade. Perhaps these broader blades were also used for 'slashing'.

The broad blade is not intended as much to penetrate as it is to cause a wide, likely irrepairable blood losing wound, not to mention that the width makes it's likely it will hit some vital organ.

No doubt intimidation was a factor in the production of these as well.
