Default My little blade collection

Hi all,
Here is my little collection of edged weapons. To the best of my limited knowledge in this field, here goes. Left to right is a congolese sword? , Fang sword? , Dayak mandau , Mangbetu trumbash , and a Zande sickle
Not sure how good the two on the left are,but think the rest are great.
The mandau is one of my all time Favorite pieces, would date to late 19th c. or there abouts, love the hair and tassels. The trumbash I was thinking 1915-1920, and not sure on the Zande sickle. Also not sure what this sickle is called?
Well hope you like.
comments welcome

Regard Ash

Thumbs up

QUITE A NICE LITTLE ASSORTMENT, FROM LITTLE THINGS BIG THINGS GROW.
AS USUAL THE BEAUTY IS IN THE HANDS OF THE HOLDER

THE SECOND AFRICAN KNIFE IS LIKELY NGOMBE OR DOKO POSSIBLY LOBALA TRIBE IN THAT ORDER OF LIKLYHOOD AND SURELY FROM THE CONGO. I LIKE THESE AND THERE ARE SOME REALY FANCY ONES AROUND. YOUR EXAMPLE DOSEN'T HAVE THE USUAL FORM OF HANDLE BUT STILL LOOKS GOOD. THE TRUMBASH HAS IT ALL FORM AND AN IVORY HANDLE MUCH TO BE DESIRED.
THE MANDAU HAS ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES AS WELL, VERY NICE CARVED ANTLER HANDLE, INTACT GRIP WITH EVEN A COIN, SCABBARD WITH BELT AND BEADWORK AND EVEN THE SIDE KNIFE A GOOD COMPLETE EXAMPLE.

Hello Ash, BETTER TO HAVE A SMALL COLLECTION OF GOOD QUALITY ITEMS (as yours), THAN A BIG COLLECTION OF . . . ."STUFF" (lets call it)!

I also like that small sweet mandau. The handle is slight crudely carved but the rest makes it up so nicely; neat scabbard, great condition beaded cord, differently carved sideknife ('pisau'?).
That African knife with the ivory handle is also quite stunning.

Most guys/collectors I know buy firstly a whole bunch of less quality and fake items to sell them together in a later stadium for a loss and buy just one or two quality items. Better to start like you do!!

Thanks for sharing.

LOL Indianajones
this is true, but it's the beginning ... of the expertise
no one hasn't been a fount of knowledge,
without to have multiplied errors, and corrected his errors ...
(that's is valid, for myself ...)

anyway, congratulations Ash, even if my knowledge in this field, be around the absolute zero ..
I can at least appreciate the aesthetic

all the best

à +

Nice little collection!
Your first african sword is from the Ngbandi - Ngombe or Doko tribe.
Your Mangbetu trumbash knife is very nice!

Nope, It will getting only worse. And if the Mrs. isn't in a mood of agreement it can become very very bad for your health. Just whistle and unpack your new toys when she is sleeping or shopping.

Hello Ash,

no junk, all authentic weapons!! I like the Mangbetu, good natural patina on the ivory handle. If you look around you can still find bargains for collecting weapons for central africa.

yours, Carlo
