Default STRANGE HELMET FOR ID please

Hi
I bought this odd helmet last week , but have no idea what it is . Ignore the sheepskin band inside the brim , that was put there by the last owner so he could wear it (!) . The framework is brass and the crown is leather , woven basketwork style through a series of brass or bronze ribs. Any help much appreciated.

You may well be right Colin , however to be a re enactors piece it would have to represent something that actually existed once .. so my question would be , what is it meant to be ?
Although not easy to see from my pics, it really does have a feeling of age. If I had to guess I would think it was a late Victorian Gothic revival decorative piece... but I wondered first if it could possibly be some sort of ethnic helmet .

My gut reaction is that it's Scandinavian, but then my gut tells me that bacon is good for me, so it shouldn't be given much credence. But it's a bit like the woven look of an Ultuna helm.

If it's a re-enactor helmet, it might be inspired by the Valsgärde 5 helmet.

Yes but it is the woven leather that makes me wonder.

What are the staves between the leather weave made of? They look like metal, and machine made. Very uniform. Looks like it once had something else riveted, or sewn to the framework. There is a series of small holes.

The ribs or staves are metal , copper or brass ... and yes there are a seies of paired holes but no indication as to what they are for.
