Default Possible cut down sword (first post on European Armoury forum)

Hello,

I have recently purchased a knife that was sold as a cut down sword. I do not deny this but I have questions about what kind of sword it possibly could have been. The blade appears to have been made from one sword and the hilt recycled from another. These are the seller's pics because I do not have the knife yet.

Thanks for your comments

Hi Pitt,

the hilt is likely to stem from 18th century (2nd half) smallsword.
I canīt tell anything about the blade.

Cheers
Andreas

Thanks for your reply, I'll probably post some more pictures when I get the knife. Although I feel that the seller's pictures do a good job of showing the important details, like the part of the pommel, where it appears that the knuckle bow was removed.

To judge by the small amount of fuller showing it looks like the blade is the tip of a sabre or hanger, probably the least distinctive part of most swords. I can't give you much hope for ever tracking the donor blade down.
